The challenge
To promote New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.' historic blockbuster horror franchise, The Conjuring Universe, Livindo was commissioned to transform the primary central atrium of Atrium Mall into a cinematic walkthrough attraction:
- Atmospheric Isolation in a Well-Lit Mall: Creating a completely enclosed, light-sealed psychological labyrinth in the middle of a brightly lit commercial retail atrium.
- Period Authenticity & Vintage Ageing: Replicating the distinct 1970s aesthetic of the Warrens' paranormal investigations, requiring precise distressing on aged timber, peeling wallpaper, cracked glass, and occult relics.
- Visitor Safety in Low-Light Mazes: Safely guiding thousands of visitors through dark corridors and sudden sensory jump-points without trip hazards, collisions, or evacuation risks.
Our approach
- Weathered American Farmhouse Façade:
Livindo engineered a multi-plane architectural façade featuring clapboard timber siding, a weathered front porch, and shuttered dormer windows. Master scenic painters applied multi-layered distressing and faux-moss texturing to create authentic decaying woodwork.
- Warren Occult Museum & Annabelle Shrine:
At the core of the walkthrough stood a museum chamber featuring the consecrated glass enclosure with the legendary warning sign "Positively Do Not Open". The Annabelle doll sat under a focused pinpoint beam that cast chilling shadows across the room.
- Subtle Theatrical Lighting & Spatial Acoustics:
The technical team embedded narrow-beam low-voltage warm LED spotlights, cold-blue ultraviolet highlights, and concealed omnidirectional speakers playing grandfather clock ticks and subtle ambient murmurs.
- Code-Compliant Safety Engineering:
Constructed with fire-rated drywalls and non-combustible timber frames, the maze incorporated hidden emergency push-bar exit doors and photoluminescent floor-level escape tracking complying with Jakarta commercial building safety standards.
Outcome
The The Conjuring Universe activation shattered mall engagement metrics, generating queue times exceeding 2 hours during peak weekend hours. Widespread viral reaction videos on TikTok and Instagram established the project as one of Warner Bros.' most celebrated experiential retail promotions in Southeast Asia.
